Hello, how are you doing?

I’m doing awesome. I’m really excited for some new things that are getting ready to happen with the band.

What is your role in Call Me Beta?

Well I’m Austin Baker and I play guitar and do vocals for Call Me Beta.

Who else does the band consist of? What are their roles?

Andrew Baker, my brother, plays drums and then Christian Pearson plays bass and that is the current line-up.  We have a new addition in the works I think everyone will find pretty awesome, Ethan Gibson!!!

How did you guys come up with the name, Call Me Beta?

It was actually written in one of my friend’s sketchbooks just randomly, and I had just started playing, so I found it fitting as beta is used for the beginning stages of programs, things of that nature as well as having some ties to technology.  I found it very proper.

How did the band form?

Call Me Beta started as just my self as a way to play music that was less abrasive than what I was doing at the time.  It slowly started getting heard more and more and I decided to take the jump into it.   My brother has always played drums with me in every band so it was natural for him to take the task for Beta.  Christian knew Andrew and it just seemed right, my good friend Nick would play for me as well every now and then and that’s pretty much it.

What is your favorite thing about being in a band, compared to being a solo artist?

I find a since of family in a band, I’m sure solo artist’s feel that way with the band members they play with, but when others get to contribute it ties you all together more.

Are any of the members in side bands?

Me and Andrew play in a band called ISEAH and Nick also played with us in that and is currently in Romance on a Rocketship.  Christian is in two other bands called aMedivm and Ships of Adamant.

What are your main influences?

Our influences are all over the place from Radiohead to Poison the Well to Tokyo Police Club it’s very broad, we just enjoy things that are thought out and performed well, things that stir something up and inspire you.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Call Me Beta currently has 1 EP out. Do you have any plans on recording another EP or full album?

We have a double EP out right now called “Like Talking to a Wall Vol. I & II” I have also released an earlier EP called “Skeleton Eyes” and there is also an EP of b-sides and remixes called “We Are Going to Die”.  Right now we are getting ready to record a new EP of four brand new tracks.  We are really proud of the new stuff.

What is your writing process like?

I usually mess around with a melody and that opens a floodgate for the rest of the song to follow.  Then the other guys embellish on those ideas and collaborate with me to make it the best it can be.

Has growing up in Missouri, and being surrounded by many different artists, affect you and the music?

It definitely has affected us all. some of our best friends have done great things.  We are honored to be among the musicians of Missouri, and we love the people we have gotten the chance grow around in playing hardcore music.

You guys are currently unsigned. Do you have any hopes of getting signed? (if so, to what label?)

That is the ultimate dream, we hope that is something that we can capture in the future, and right now that’s what we are working for.  We are open to the label that gives us the options we feel fair and where we can both work together to make the best possible outcome, which ever label that would be.

What are your goals for the band’s future?

Most certainly to do more touring, me and my brother missed that the most, meeting people and playing music every night it’s amazing.  To get some label support is also something we are going to try and accomplish.

When Call Me Beta was first started, what were the band’s goals- was the band started just for fun, or did you plan on making a career out of it?

The band started out as just a solo acoustic act of my self.  My dad loves music and always wanted me to do something that was more melodic than hardcore and eventually I started listening to him and then people started listening to my music.  So my dad pushed me to do it and now I couldn’t be more grateful.

For those who never listened to you, how would you describe your sound?

Three words: Rock, and, roll.

Is there anything else you want readers to know?

Do you.
