Hello, how are you?
I’m doing great! Currently sitting in the DFW Airport waiting to fly back to Springfield from my weekend in Pittsburgh.
How did Chase The Day Apparel begin?
In the summer of 2007, my aunt was killed. After that experience, I realized that I needed to start living a more impactful life. The next few years after her death, I booked for bands, ran an annual benefit concert in Saint Louis, and continued my normal day-to-day activities. Throughout that time, my sister and I kicked around ideas for starting our own not-for-profit but ended up deciding against it because we were still in school. But the idea of starting something new stuck with me. At the end of 2009, I started seeing a lot of apparel companies that band’s endorsed. I thought they were all well done, but I thought I could produce something more meaningful and developed. So, that’s when the gears for Chase the Day started turning.
Why did you decide on the name, Chase The Day?
My sister’s blog was titd ‘Chase the Day’. I thought it was a phrase that really described what I was going for with my company. To me, Chase the Day means to live, impact, create, hope, love, inspire, and dream.
What kind of apparel is sold?
At the moment, Chase the Day is made up of t-shirts, zip-ups, and bracelets. We’re currently working on a limited-time spring t-shirt line. After that we will be releasing a summer line with other products.
Who would you have model your apparel, if you could have anyone in the world, dead or alive?
If I could have any model dead of alive, I think I would have Elsie Flannigan (www.elsiecake.com) or Rachel Denbow (www.Racheldenbow.blogspot.com). Both ladies are independent entrepreneurs and have been such an inspiration for me (with creativity and business) plus are amazing models! I would be blessed to work with either of them.
Where do you get your inspiration for the clothing designs?
My inspiration comes from everywhere. Just the other day, I was in an Interior Design class and a piece of furniture caught my eye. I then spent the rest of the hour drawing out a sketch for a future shirt.
How do you come up with the sayings that are featured on the clothing?
I start with what I want the message of my shirt to convey and then work around creating a saying for the piece of clothing. It’s a long process until I find something I’m absolutely in love with.
What are your goals?
My main goal for Chase the Day right now is to be able to reach and inspire more people. I want to continue to expand the site but also start connecting with retailers to sell the clothing in their shops, as well as have Chase the Day at concerts, events, etc. Another goal of mine is to start connecting with more bands and not-for-profit organizations to collaborate with.
Is Chase The Day Apparel sponsoring any bands, as of now? If so, what bands?
We are currently talking with two bands about endorsements. Those names will hopefully be released within the coming months!
What advice do you have for someone trying to start their own apparel site?
Be patient and keep an open mind. Chase the Day didn’t happen overnight. It took almost a year for it to fully develop and release. Also, carry a sketchpad with you at all times! Ideas and inspiration can come at anytime and I’ve always found it helpful to have an empty notebook to store them in.
Is there anything else you want to say about your site?
Our promotional video for the fall release really shows what we are about. You can view that at, “www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5uzMwiBZUo” Also, we are offering all orders that put “SLOVE” in the note box on their order, a free leather bracelet!
